Failing cheaply is a close sibling to failing fast. Experts should spend as little money and time as possible on exposing bad ideas. Don’t spend two dollars proving something is wrong if you can prove it for one dollar instead. Don’t spend two hours researching a bad idea if one hour will do. Bad ideas don’t deserve your time, money, or emotional energy.
Bad ideas are like abusive relationships. No matter how much you hope an idea will yield happiness, a bad idea is certain to bring disappointment or despair. Bad ideas also will appear attractive and charming at first, but they end up sucking the energy out of everything you do. Bad ideas should be jettisoned as quickly as possible with as little cost as possible. If you are going to fail, then do it fast and do it cheaply.
